Motorhome Meals On Wheels: Try BBQ

There are a lot of us that actually like food. We're aware that it's a necessity, but it can also be fun and exciting or boring and bland. And we choose the former. So when we jump in our motorhome to take off on a vacation we take food into account. You can go several different directions.

1. Camping classics: There's something fun and exciting about sitting around a campfire and actually cooking on the open flames. And when you're out and about vacationing in your RV you have this method at your disposal. Step out your door at an appropriate campsite and set yourself up with a campfire. Then you can go crazy with hobo dinners, hot dogs, Dutch oven apple cobbler or smores. And you can even douse the fire and head inside for a shower after the kids have you covered in marshmallow goo.

2. Everyday cooking: you're on vacation, but you don't have to lose all the normal stuff if you don't want to. It could be that you normally like the way you eat and with the conveniences of a motorhome you can. You might like to stay on your normal eating schedule or maybe you have someone in your family that is a really, really picky eater or maybe someone has severe allergies. Whatever the reason if you want to continue eating normally while on your vacation you can! And it's all thanks to the conveniences of the kitchen available in most motorhomes.

3. Eating BBQ: this is a classic option and can definitely be enjoyed roadside. Just set up camp and settle in at a good spot before starting up the grill. Many RVs have a grill included in the set up, but if not...there are many campgrounds that offer grills as an amenity. Plus...new research suggests that BBQ is full of antioxidants.

Is that not getting you excited? Well...wait for it. Researchers at the University of Ontario did a study all about BBQ sauce. And apparently it is filled with herbs and spices that are antioxidants. These will give BBQ eaters a boost to their immune system.

These antioxidants are included in many typical BBQ sauce varieties that are available at your local grocery store. Some of the them that have antioxidants are: roasted red pepper, sesame ginger teriyaki, garlic and herb sauce, jerk sauce, etc. These all contain a significant amount of the antioxidants that can boost the immune system. So fire up the grill frequently and feel guilt free when you do it. You now have a reason to view it in the healthiest light.

And if you want to go even further with the "healthy" aspect then you can easily go for certain grilling items. Whole wheat buns are healthier than most. You can opt for all beef hot dogs. You can choose to grill chicken. You can choose low fat cuts of steak.

But then...you don't have to worry about being healthy unless you want to! It's your call...it's your vacation! If you want to worry about being healthy...do it. If you don't want to worry about being healthy...you can!

RV travel is a great option for Arizona. The large number of public areas designated as National Parks and/or National Recreation Areas appeal to visitors. The state's mild weather makes enjoying the state year round possible as well as safe for travel. In honor of July's National Park and Recreation Areas month Pedata RV Center is releasing a RV hotspot list!

AZ National Parks and Recreation Areas Great for RVers:

1. Grand Canyon: The Grand Canyon is located north of Flagstaff. Any tourist headed to Arizona has heard of the Grand Canyon. Almost every visitor headed to the US has heard of the Grand Canyon. It's one of the natural wonders of the world. At one point it is 18 miles wide and it's one mile deep. It's the ultimate Arizona travel destination.

2. Glen Canyon National Rec. Area: Over 1.2 million acres of back country and water based recreational activities can be found at Glen Canyon National Park. It reaches from Arizona's Lees Ferry to Southern Utah's Orange Cliffs. It is known for its geologic wonders and beautiful views.

3. Lake Mead National Recreation Area: This is a popular spot for RVers year round. RVers who are interested in boating, swimming and fishing are particularly pleased with this area. Additionally, this recreation area is also popular for wildlife/plant life photographers, hikers, sightseers, etc. Native desert plants and animals abound throughout the desert landscape.

4. Petrified Forest Nat. Park: The world's largest forest of petrified wood (and one of the most colorful). It provides great views of native plant life, native animal life, fossils up to 200+ million years old, Painted Desert, historic structures, archeological sites and more. It appeals to visitors on many different levels.

5. Saguaro National Park: This park protects an impressive forest of saguaros. While saguaro cacti are the iconic symbol of the American West...they are actually only native in a very small region. In addition to the saguaros visitors love enjoying the gorgeous Arizona sunsets.

In addition to the five listed above...Arizona offers many more national monuments, historic trails and parks. They are often favorites for RVers; popular and exciting. They often offer an extensive variety of entertainment and recreational opportunities.

Many people today are extremely attached to their cell phones (or as some say...smart phones). When it comes to their phone they are almost co-dependent. They don't depend on it only to make and receive phone calls, but to provide them with constant accessibility. It provides constant access to friends, family, co-workers, and more. Bur the reverse is also true; all those people also get constant access to whoever is carrying around their cell phone.

This desperate need for constant access is rarely interrupted except for call screening. Don't deny it. We all screen calls. And we all know that we all screen calls. It's almost pointless to attempt to screen calls. If someone knows you well enough they'll just call you over and over until you answer and then tease you about screening your calls. In general, if we call someone's cell phone we expect them to answer it regardless of time or place.

And this holds true for a vacation. Even when someone is on vacation they often still take the majority of their phone calls. If you were to load up your RV and head out and realize half an hour or an hour down the road that you forgot your cell phone...would you turn around? Chances are that you would. Most people would. That's how attached to our cell phones we are. Without it we would suffer some massive separation anxiety.

And in addition to the separation anxiety we would also have to deal without the many conveniences that come with a smart phone. RVers who forget their phones will most often turn around to get it and there are a lot of reasons running through their head when they do it.

1. Smart phones often offer navigation applications.

2. Directory applications on many phones give instant access to information on restaraunts, entertainment venues, movie show times, etc.

3. Access to the internet through a smart phone is hard to pass up when you're going to be away from your home computer. You can use it to access campground info and availability, etc.

4. And what would we be without all the movies, music and games that we keep on our phones?

After this little discussion I'm sure most of us agree that smart phones are an excellent addition to most road trip groups. They're just so handy and convenient! And they come in handy particularly on a road trip. But also particular to road trips is the fact that there are safety issues. You'll be driving...A recent study by CareerBuilder.com suggested that half of all drivers are frequently accessing smart phones features while driving.

A second study done by University of Utah suggested that driving abilities are decreased when drivers are on the phone. It decreases the driver's ability to brake quickly by 20% and increases the driver's propensity to drive TOO slow by 30%.

Cell phone use should be considered carefully by RVers. There are pros and there are cons. Drivers who are taking a road trip alone should consider keeping their phone off while they are driving. That way they are safe, but they can also access the phone's tools and entertainment options as necessary when they are not focusing on driving. Drivers with passengers should consider passing the phone to a passenger who can access navigational tools, etc. while the driver focuses on the road.

Get out and enjoy the open road! It's one of the greatest and most traditional of trips. But make it a safe trip by considering the dangers of being on the phone while driving. Smart phones are drastically convenient, but there's more inconvenient than being involved in an accident while on vacation. So avoid it at all costs by staying off the phone while driving.
