Your Questions About Caravan Tours
George asks…
caravan tours?
I would like some feedback from anyone that has taken the Caravan Grand Canyon tour, or if not that then another stateside tour. I need information other than their website raves.

admin answers:
At our agency, we sell a lot of Caravan Tours, especially their Grand Canyon, Copper Canyon, and Costa Rica packages.
Caravan is a rock-solid tour operator that delivers exactly what it promises - and they are extremely well priced! They are about half a step above mid-range, providing first-class experiences. Many clients have taken 2, 3, even 4 of their tours. That's probably the best indicator of their quality and their overall product.
I hope this information is helpful in your decision making.
Ruth asks…
What is your opinion of Trafalgar Tours vs Caravan Tours for a Mexico Copper Canyon Tour?

admin answers:
Caravan is an American expert. Trafalgar is Europe style for some
benefits like packing on buses. Depends a bit on what are you
doing. Trafalgar has specific trained camper, fresh air, livestock
advisors if you want European view. Caravan is priced for vacationing.

Specialty Static Caravan Insurance for Proper Peace of Mind
Article by NACO Services
Here's the thing about static caravan insurance: unless a company is composed of people who have had direct experience of caravan ownership, they're pretty poorly placed to design and sell insurance for caravans. Now, while insurance for statics is not a legal requirement, it would be inconceivably simple to decide not to protect your holiday home in some way: it is, after all, a significant and long lasting (you hope) investment, which you don't tend to live anywhere near and which you see maybe twice a year. That's a lot of cash tied up in an aluminium clad box with fitted sofas.
You can, fortunately, now get static caravan insurance from people who have lived the life and know what the real dangers affecting statics actually are. Yes, opportunist theft can be a problem, particularly on sites that close down for the winter months; as, of course, can the normal failures to launch of domestic appliances fittings and so on. The real things that affect statics and their owners, though, the things that insurance for caravans, when it's sold by people who own caravans, is designed to protect against, all come in the shape and form of the British weather.
Leaving anything alone, outside, in Britain for extended periods of time is a virtual guarantee that it will rust, or that water will get into it, or that wind will blow it apart, or that it will sink in mud. To one degree or another, all of these things happen to the owners of static caravans. Static caravan insurance is as much about protecting your investment against weather encroachments you can't even see as it is about preventing unsustainable loss through theft or equipment failure. Insurance for caravans makes provision for the fact that they are left alone for significant periods of time, and that the most likely time for an owner to phone in a claim is after he or she has been away from the van for a couple of months. During which time of course anything could have set in and gotten progressively worse without anyone being there to notice.
Static caravan insurance is designed to protect an investment - and, crucially, to make sure that the unique way in which that investment is enjoyed (i.e. every now and then, with great periods of absence in between) does not hamper insurance claims when they need to be put in.
The trick to getting good insurance for caravans is to go to a body that has been set up to promote the interest of caravan and holiday home owners and start with them. That way you know you are getting unbiased advice - or, if anything, advice biased on the side of the caravan owner: you. Static caravan insurance isn't a legal requirement, but it is a necessity for any serious holiday home owner. Getting the right insurance for caravans will save money and heartache in the long run - and will safeguard for many, many years of delightful holidays.

Your Questions About Unusual Mobile Homes
Sharon asks…
mobile home doors?
I'm having an impossible time finding a 22 x 80 bedroom door for a trailer, why do mobile homes always have the most unusual (inconvenient) measurements? would your big chain stores like Lowe's or Home Depot possibly carry these? i don't have either near me, but i'd be willing to make a special trip

admin answers:
I know what you mean. I live in one made in 1979 & I had to replace the shower door after an earthquake. The manufacturer label was still on the broken door & I looked them up online & in the yellow pages in the city that was listed on the label. The place had filed bankruptcy in the early 90s. I had to get a hold of another manufacturer that was able to custom make the door & thankfully didn't charge me an outrageous price. Home Depot or Lowe's might have the size you need. If not, try a mobile home manufacturer in your area. Fleetwood is a common maker. Check your local phone book's yellow pages.
Sandy asks…
Inquiring about a unusual path around my house?
I just noticed a smooth snake-like path path coming from the front of my mobile home, around the side, and down the back of my yard into the bushes where there are some small broken peices of concrete. Could this be a snake going after the mice that hang around to eat the cats food?

Your Questions About Caravan Holidays Uk
Lizzie asks…
I am thinking of buying a caravan holiday home near the coast (uk) is there any pitfalls i should be aware of.

admin answers:
I own a Caravan on the East Coast of UK - Nr Filey.
I do not rent mine out - only let family stay there. The only pitfall maybe to me is the actually running cost of owning a caravan - and also the cost in fuel to get there and back - its a 240 mile return trip. If you are thinking of buying and renting out - most parks (Haven - Bourne Leisure which are the same really) will only rent them for 7 years after that it will be up to you and they charge 20% of your income for the privilege of renting it out.
On the up side if you use the caravan - which we do - most weekends and school holidays it is great fun not only for the kids but for yourself.
If you are unsure and have never owned or been on a Caravan holiday - buy a good used caravan - to get the feel of things - it could be quite expensive if you do not like the life style - and you could end up losing a lot of money - most parks will not buy back your caravan unless you are upgrading to a more expensive caravan.
Hope some of this information helps you.
Richard asks…
I would like to take a touring caravan on holiday to France? Are dogs allowed into the country from the UK?

admin answers:
If you are travelling with pets temporarily or on vacation to France then each pet must have a full and valid EU Pets Passport in order to return to the UK without being quarantined for 6 months. Your veterinary surgeon will be able to advise you about acquiring a pets passport and will be up to date with the ever changing regulations but it usually entails the following:
1: Microchip identification (not tattoo).
2: A valid rabies vaccination - if your pet has not been inoculated against rabies before then a blood test will be required after the first vaccination and your pet must wait a further six months before being allowed to travel.
Before returning to the UK you will need to visit a French veterinary surgeon in order to carry out flea and tick treatment this must be carried out between 24 and 48 hours before your pet is checked-in to travel back to the UK. After the treatment has been administered by the vet he or she will stamp and sign your pets passport to signify that your pet has been treated, without this your pet will not be allowed entry to the UK.
