Insurance for Static Caravans

Caravan insurance can be a complicated matter, if you don't take out enough or the right type you could be left having to pay for your claim out of your own pocket if you are unlucky enough to have to make a claim. Your insurance needs would depend on what you do with your Caravan. It could be used as a tourer or it could be used to rent out if it was static on site. In both of these cases you would need to ensure that you had the right insurance.

Your choices for insurance are fully comprehensive and third party fire and theft. If you buy a Caravan over a certain amount of money or you buy a brand new one then you would have to take out fully comprehensive insurance. This would provide you with the most protection for your Caravan. You could consider a cheaper form of insurance if you are buying a second hand cheaper model of Caravan.

If you were looking for static Caravan insurance then you would have to take into account such as cover for items in the Caravan. This is essential when renting out to holiday makers as breakages do happen and there is even theft that has to be taken into account. When renting, particularly if it is your livelihood, you would also have to check to find out if your policy provided you with protection for a loss of rental if your Caravan was damaged and it was inhabitable. Depending on how long it took to make repairs and get it back to site you could lose out on hundreds of pounds in rent.

A static Caravan would also be unlived in for sometime out of the year. Therefore you want to ensure it would be protected against break in and damage caused by vandalism. You could perhaps make savings on static insurance if you ensured the Caravan was a safe as possible during these times. This could mean installing an alarm system, locks on the door and smoke alarms. All of these could go towards ensuring your Caravan was safe. Choosing a static site that was walled, has security lightning and someone on site could also help towards keeping down the cost of the insurance premiums.

If you have a touring Caravan and are looking for insurance for this then you would also have different needs. If you planned on touring around Europe in your Caravan then you would need to ensure that you would be protected to do so. Some providers would offer European cover that lasted for so many days out of the year while others might not set a limit which would leave you free to travel in Europe for however long you wanted.

When looking for your Caravan insurance always ensure that you read the small print of any policy you are considering taking out. The limits for paying out on certain items could vary greatly between providers. You should always be given the key facts document which would allow you to make a comparison of any cover you were looking into that much easier.

Tourists and Caravans in France

Touring with caravans and staying at different camp sites...

In the summer, it is interesting to observe the many foreigners driving on the road heading towards the south of France, which counts as the most popular tourist spot. Nearly eighty percent of the cars are from abroad or from other provinces. Usually, they come from England, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. The French visitors are from big cities like Paris, Rennes, Lyon, and Lille.

Among the foreigners, the British people are the ones who are considered quite extravagant because they come in new cars in the latest models. In France, caravans are the way to go, but English locals simply view caravans as nuisances to driving, especially if their cars are following these caravans. That is because they cannot overtake the caravans. But, the Foreign Secretary is very keen on caravan trips and he has made these sorts of holidays so popular. As such, English people know how to respect caravan holidays, even though they are irate about caravans.

Meanwhile, the Dutch are the ones perceived to be the economical tourists. They come in caravans and prefer to stay in campsites and bring all of their belongings, which usually include food and bicycles for each member of the family. They bring bicycles so that they can avoid additional expenses.

Of all the foreign travelers, the Germans travel in the biggest motor caravans, the most modern of which have computerized panels. They also take their motorbikes and big tents with them, along with their pairs of shoes for hiking, biking, lounging, and dinner. Yes, you heard that right.

But when it comes to driving, the Italians are seen as the attention grabbers. One recognizes the Italians by their style of driving. Their caravans, sometimes, swerve right in the middle of the road and then suddenly jerk between two lanes. Italians drive in zigzags and then they warmly greet you with hands dancing in the air. Peculiar, huh?

As mentioned earlier, in France, caravans are one of the finest ways to travel around the country, because they give you the freedom to go wherever you want sans the confines of strict itineraries. They also allow you to save money from your accommodation bills. Fayence in Var is a good place to stop by when searching for beautiful caravans. It is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Fayence in Var resembles one of those villages you see on television or in period films, where filmmakers try to reconstruct France during the Middle Ages.

Caravan Insurance

Insurance for caravans can be found online with a specialist broker and by choosing this option you can make some great savings on a policy. There are many different factors that have to be compared when looking to take out insurance. Some providers will include features as standard in the cover, while others would ask you add them on at extra cost, so check the small print that comes with the policy before taking it out.

Fully comprehensive is one of the dearest forms of insurance for caravan; however it also provides the most complete cover for your vehicle and for any third party that should be involved in an accident. The insurance would usually include medical and legal insurance for both yourself and passengers along with the third party.

However there could be limits as to the amount the cover would payout so you would have to check for this.

default Caravan Insurance

The majority of insurance for caravan would payout for fire, theft, accidental damage, windscreen cover, and flood and storm damage. However the provider could include many others while some providers would ask that you pay extra. One of the features would be European cover, some providers might add this into the policy as standard and others allow you to have it added on for a little extra. Having European cover is essential if you are planning on travelling outside of the UK, however if you do not need this then look for cover that does not include European cover as it can save you money on the cost of the insurance.

When you compare insurance always check that you are comparing policies on a like for like basis. For example, one policy might offer to payout new for old and this would mean as the name suggests that you would get brand new replacements for your items. Another policy might payout and take wear and tear into account. If you were comparing the two then you would not get a fair comparison. With this in mind, always check the terms offered by the provider.

When insuring the contents of the caravan, always take an inventory. You should not forget the small items such as kitchen utensils as even the smallest of items when all added up together can soon add up. The amount you get to would be the sum of money that you would want to insure the contents of your caravan for in case you should lose them all. When considering this take into account such items as awnings and steps which would have to be replaced if they become damaged or stolen and which could be costly.

When comparing any insurance for caravan policy, check to see if you would get a brand new replacement for the caravan if it were to be written off by the insurance provider. Some providers would give a new replacement vehicle providing it met certain conditions. For instance if the caravan was under a certain age or you had travelled under a certain amount of miles with it, however again this would depend on the provider you chosen to take out your insurance with.

Buying a Caravan

What to look for when buying a caravan

Buying caravans, whether they are new or second hand, can often be a nightmare; even more so with the second hand variety. There are a few things you should keep an eye out for when buying your new holiday retreat and a good bargain isn't the most important one!

Firstly, buying static caravans come with added pressures and you need to know which holiday park or other location you are going to park your new toy prior to you buying it. There are very often special seasons in which caravan parks and other such locations are open and you must check to see if your new static caravan can be kept at these places during the closed season.

default Buying a Caravan

Caravans, both new and used, must be checked to ensure that there is no rust that can potentially cause problems later on and this is more so the case with static caravans which tend to be stationary for long periods and out in the elements a lot of the year.

Fresh paint can quite often be an indication of previous rusting on the caravans and the chassis and under body of the vehicle should be properly checked to ensure there is no rust.

The second thing that you should check is the interior of the static caravans you are looking at. The smell of damp is a sure fire way of realising that something is wrong, and damp caravans make for miserable and smelly holidays! Check around the windows and doors to ensure that the seals are fully functional and also along any pipes to ensure that these are not leaking either.

Once you have checked the above things it's time to take another look outside and see if the tow hitch moves as easily as it should do and also that the handbrake works! Checking for even the most obvious things can mean that there are no hidden surprises when it comes to using static caravans on trips or holidays and can also give a great reason to try and barter with regards to the price.

One of the most important things that you should look out for when buying caravans and especially static caravans is whether or not it will be big enough for the purposes that you have in mind. If there is not enough space for you and any children that you may have, it will become cramped and tempers will flare very quickly. You should also try and make sure that you buy caravans that are within your budget and this goes for new or second-hand ones. There is no point in buying static caravans if you cannot afford to use them until you have paid them off!

All in all, as long as you are sensible when buying your caravan and you make sure that you keep your eyes open against all eventualities, you can ensure you are getting a good bargain for the money you are paying and also no extra costs later on if something is found to be malfunctioning.

Touring Caravan Parks

Time For A Touring Caravan

With the current financial climate as well everyone telling us that we need to reduce our carbon footprint, many of us have opted to try and spend more holiday time in our home countries instead of travelling abroad. Pulling out the maps and looking at areas you've never been to before is a great way to spend some of those long winter nights.

default Touring Caravan Parks

For some though the thought of holiday camp type places can fill us with dread and fear, something left over in our childhood memories I guess. The other option would be to buy yourself a caravan and a suitable car to tow it and choose our own holiday destination. As a young man cruising around in my first car I must admit to having a general dislike for caravans and caravanners, especially when caught behind one on a single track road. That was in my youth though were everything had to be fast and sitting behind the wheel of my Ford Capri with a caravan in front it could feel the world was coming to a stand still.

Today however my youth years are long gone and slowing things down a little is the number one priority. I'm in no hurry to get were I'm going, I know I'll end up there and as many people have said it's not the destination that's important its how you get there.

This is statement is very true when thinking of buying a touring caravan. If you're the type of person that has to get everything when you want it in the fastest possible time then caravanning may be a shock to your system. Fast food and MTV maybe something that fills your normal daily routine but when pulling a caravan everything slows down.

The journey is half the fun of your holiday and getting to your caravan site safe and in one piece is your number one priority. Regardless it your about to embark on a long journey across international boarders or a local one crossing nothing more than a county boarder you should try and make the setting up, hitching up and packing up just as much fun as the journey there and your time on holiday.

Touring caravans are a great way to see your own country without the added expense of hotels. They can also be a great way to explore other countries without hassle of train, flight or bus timetables. Just don't get hung up on doing things fast.
